The Bureau of Culture, Arts, and Heritage has announced plans to establish an institute dedicated to improving the way Sylvestrians sustainably feed, house, and clothe themselves. The Royal Sylvestrian Center for Subsistence Studies is the first government-sponsored think tank in Sylvestria. The Director General has awarded the institute a monetary grant and a small plot of land in the Highdenn community to ensure that research may begin immediately. "The projects planned by the Center [for Subsistence Studies] will undoubtedly contribute greatly to Sylvestria's goals of achieving greater food security, reducing dependence on foreign energy, and improving the lives of all Sylvestrians."
The Royal Sylvestrian Center for Subsistence Studies will begin its efforts by establishing a series of test plots in order to determine which crops may be best suited to Sylvestria's growing conditions. Additional research projects planned for 2025 include biochar production, hydroponic gardening in small spaces, open-pollinated seed selection and saving, as well as best practices for overwintering citrus trees. The research facility will eventually boast a greenhouse, a small office and laboratory, a weather station, and a storage building for larger tools and equipment.
The Royal Sylvestrian Center for Subsistence Studies welcomes and encourages all Sylvestrians interested in sustainable agriculture and alternative energy to reach out and assist as citizen scientists. International partners are also encouraged to inquire about opportunities to collaborate on planned projects such as the Micronational Seed Bank, zero gravity germination experiments, agricultural development aid, and more. In exchange for continued government financing, the institute will publish quarterly reports on its projects for the benefit of all.
