The Principality of Sylvestria has announced its intention to actively participate in the Intermicronational Year of Exploration, an event planned and announced by President Zar Antonov of the United Republic of Obscurium. In line with this global initiative, Sylvestria will be sponsoring the Royal Sylvestrian Geographical Society (RSGS) in a series of expeditions aimed at expanding knowledge and fostering a spirit of adventure.
The RSGS has outlined an exciting array of projects for the upcoming year, including naval expeditions in the waterways around the Principality, a pioneering rocket research program, and a comprehensive border survey and mapping expedition of one of Sylvestria's provinces. These efforts will not only enhance the nation's geographic and scientific understanding but also serve as a platform for international collaboration and friendship.
The Director General has taken the opportunity to introduce two new prestigious awards to motivate both Sylvestrians and foreign explorers to partake in the year of discovery. The Medal for Excellence in Exploration, or "the Explorer's Medal," is designed to recognize outstanding contributions in exploration, discovery, and research across all domains—land, sea, air, and space. This award may be presented to Sylvestrians for their achievements and can also be granted to foreign nationals who have shown exceptional merit while working in concert with Sylvestria's research objectives.
The Expeditionary Service Medal will be awarded to individuals who actively engage in or provide substantial support to the operations of the RSGS or the Bureau of Civil Defense and Security (BCDS). This includes participation in or assistance with missions related to exploration, training, research, or security. Notably, this medal is also open to citizens of other countries who are partaking in Sylvestrian-led or aligned expeditions.
The Intermicronational Year of Exploration is a collaborative endeavor aimed at fostering a culture of exploration and cooperation among the world's micronations.
